Abudu Gusau Polytechnic is a public state polytechnic located in Talata Marafa, Zamfara, in the northern part of Nigeria. Abudu Gusau Polytechnic was founded in the year 1992 by the former governor of Sokoto State, Mallam Yahaya Abdulkarim, who was named College of Administration before it was changed to Abudu Gusau Polytechnic in honour of Engineer Abudu, a prominent member of the state and the first engineer to come from Zamfara, who died in 1994.
Due to the location of the polytechnic when it was created, which was situated in Sokoto when it was originally Zamfara Polytechnic, the polytechnic had to be relocated, and this brought about its relocation to its new site, which the polytechnic uses currently.
Much has been done; the polytechnic is striving and pushing to meet the world standard in recent years through its contribution and its quota to make sure education is accessible to a large number of indigenes and Nigerians alike.
While it is classified as a faculty in most institutions, Abudu Gusau Polytechnic runs and operates its department under what it calls its school. Various schools that operate in Abudu Gusau Polytechnic include the School of Business and Management Studies, School of Engineering, School of Science and Technology, School of Environmental Science, School of General Studies, School of Preliminary Studies, and its School of Postgraduate.
Abudu Gusau Polytechnic currently runs seven schools plus its postgraduate school. Under this school are different departments, and these departments explain the courses that are offered in the institution.

Abudu Gusau Polytechnic not only offers ND and HND courses; it also offers a B.Sc. programme, which is in affiliation with Usman Dan-Fodiyo University, Sokoto. The list of courses is:

Abudu Gusau Polytechnic Admission Requirements
Abudu Gusau Polytechnic uses UTME as its form of admission for students in the institution, coupled with O-level results. When admission requirements vary based on department and course of study, general requirements are mandated for all students to have.
For the ND programme, candidates are required to have at least five credits in relevance to their study in not more than two sittings, plus a good score in the JAMB examination. HND applicants are required to have at least a lower credit in their ND level certificate, and for postgraduate programmes, candidates are required to have four credits in relevant fields of study, with English and Mathematics compulsory.
Abudu Gusau Polytechnic Cut-off mark for all courses
The general requirement set by JAMB for polytechnics is currently at 100 for all polytechnics across Nigeria, but the cut-off mark varies for different polytechnics. The cut-off mark for Abudu Gusau Polytechnic currently is 120 for all courses, but it is required that candidates score more than 120 to be considered for admission for competitive courses.
School Fees for All Courses
School fees in Abudu Gusau Polytechnic are very cheap, especially if a student is an indigene of the state. For any science course that is done in the institution, which includes engineering, SLT courses, computers, and other science courses, students who are indigent pay ₦41,100, while non-indigent students pay the sum of ₦61,000.
Students in the ND I programme who major in the art and the management program pay ₦37,100 for indigene and ₦57,100 for non-indigene. For ND II programme students in the science field who are indigent, it will cost ₦34,100, while non-indigent students will pay ₦47,100.
The school for the HND programme differs from the D programme. Students who are indigenous and who are studying for HND get to pay ₦43,100 and ₦63,100 for non-indigenous indigenous. The fees are for science courses.
For HND II indigenes, pay the sum of ₦36,100, and for non-indigenes, ₦51,100. For Postgraduate HND indigenes who are in the science field, they are expected to pay the sum of ₦40,600, while their counterparts, the non-indigenes, pay ₦55,600. In the arts and Management field, the course tuition fee for indigenes is ₦39,100 and for non-indigenes, ₦53,100
There might be some fees that the institution mandates students to pay, which might not be included here, but they won’t be as expensive as the institution’s school fees.
Conclusion
Abudu Gusau Polytechnic has the cheapest tuition fee for students at polytechnics across Nigeria, with students paying below ₦100,000, while some polytechnics in Nigeria demand above ₦100,000.
The indigenous people of Zamfara state/Talata Marafa, also have an upper advantage as they can get admitted quickly, and they get to pay lower fees than students from other regions of Nigeria.
The polytechnic giving admission and letting indigenes pay lower tuition fees compared to other students from different states in Nigeria is not nepotism but rather a way to foster education in the community.
